Jonathan Prince

Jonathan Prince is an American artist known for his large-scale sculptures in steel and granite. With studios in Brussels, Belgium, and a state-of-the-art studio in the Berkshires of Massachusetts, Prince creates works reflecting his wide-ranging interests in science, technology, and spirituality. His pieces, often monumental, represent a continuous exploration of material, form, and scale. Typically characterized by sharp contrasts between oxidized CorTen steel and mirror-polished stainless steel, his works explore the tension between perfected geometries and chaotic breaks, reflecting the dualities inherent in life.

Born in New York City, Prince’s artistic journey began at the age of 12, when he was apprenticed to the French-American cubist sculptor Jacques Lipchitz. This early experience of transforming matter into meaning has stayed with him throughout his diverse career. Despite initially pursuing a career as a maxillofacial surgeon, Prince’s enduring passion for sculpture led him to rekindle his artistic aspirations in 2002. Today, Prince’s sculptures, which can be found in private and public collections around the world, are a testament to his mastery of form and his deep engagement with the materials he shapes.
