Alexandre Diop (b. 1995) is a Franco-Senegalese artist based in Vienna. His process is initially guided by the physical realities of the materials he employs in his works. Using every day – and often discarded – materials and objects such as books, photographs, metal, and wood, as well as elements like animal hair, fire, and rust, Diop creates compositions that respect creativity and conceptually investigate the artistic essence. His references allude to the deep intellectual space that is an integral layer of his practice. Diop’s process defies immediate definition or categorization, and his practice continues to occupy a space between painting, sculpture, and installation, between figuration and abstraction.
