Alex Ruthner (b. 1981 Vienna) lives and works in Los Angeles and Vienna. Alex combines figuration and abstraction in an uncanny manner. The connotations of coolness and trivial gestures arbitrarily inhabit his paintings, yet the blurring of foreground and background underlines the painting with intrinsic flatness. Alex also produces the magazine, EINE. EINE distinguishes itself by its elaborate and exclusive picture production and offers a detailed presentation of the individual positions of the artists. In addition, EINE‘s spontaneous use of material and graphics sets it apart from similar publications.
